Thank you,John! Yes,I'm very satisfied with this specimen,as the female zalates is a very rare butterfly, very hard to get in good quality, and I got this specimen for a bit more than 1000 euros. 9000euros..?!wow. I've seen your magnificent female,it has also a lot of red on forewings, like mine ! Thanos

Congrats on a fine bug Thanos They are 'out-of-my-league' price-wise for a while. I did, however, manage to grab a Limenitis zayla recently which is indeed a toughy and long desired. I would like to nab a female P. bachus someday. The male P. ascoliuses I have will have to remain lonely for a bit. Thanks for posting a pic of what the female looks like---I've never seen one, let alone seen one for sale.

Yes John, your female is gorgeous ! And your male, too ! I got last year a close to A1 male, but had exchanged it for something else,so I need an A1 one to go with my female. It's much easier to get than the female, but still expensive to very expensive and hard to get in good quality. Bill, during the last 2 years,I've seen about 3-4 females zalates offered as auctions on ebay. One was an A2 specimen and the auction ended at around 1000 usd..The other was a good specimen(only few rubbing) and ended around the same price. The last one I saw offered was close to A1 and it had ended at around 1200 usd (very good price),while a nearly A1 female Papilio neyi offered by the same seller at the same time had ended at around 1400 usd or so. And I can recall another(good looking one,but repaired) female zalates, which was offered on ebay last year, but was removed already the first day from the auction(before bidding),as probably a good offer was made to the seller. nice
I'll be happy when I can afford a male specimen, of any ssp of ascolius .
The difference in the orange coloration between the male and female is striking though

And as far as "expensive" Papilios on my want list it goes this way:
1)P. garamus electryon red and black female 2)P. leucotaeniae 3)P.birchalli 4)P. ascolius
these are the 4 large and distinct species I don;t have

This is P.ascolius ascolius from Colombia (male),which is easier to get than the males of ascolius zalates, but I have never seen a female ascolius ascolius offered,so I think that she is even harder to get than the ascolius zalates female..!
