Hi, In April last year, I saw this caterpillar at a wetland in Singapore. It is about 2cm long, with yellow and black stripes, and a red face. Just wondering if anyone knows the name of this species. I've seen the caterpillar once and never again. Thanks in advance. Attachments:

Cute though it is we need to see more than just his 'face' for an identification I am afraid. I would suggest the family Lasoicampidae as a starting point though. Dave

Hi, Dave, Many thanks... I googled for images of Lasoicampidae but they do not look so much like the one that I saw. The caterpillar was quite small (~2cm in length and barely 0.5cm in diameter). The leaf that it was on was moving (windy) so I did not manage to get a good shot of it. Recently I tried googling again and saw that someone else had taken a similar shot which is a lot clearer than my shot: www.flickr.com/photos/alpha200/5732497144/I'm not sure if this helps in identifying the caterpillar... in any case, many thanks for taking the time to look/ reply. Thanks again!

That is the same caterpillar mate. I still think Lasoicampidae as we have a similar one here in England, in the Genus Malacosoma, but with a blue head. Perhaps someone in this website may be able to help; butterfly.nss.org.sg/home/have a chat with them. Cheers, Dave
