Alright...dumb question #42: Will poplar sphynx larvae feed on plants other than Poplar? I have maple, oak, butternut, walnut, privet, and English elm! And poplar! obe

Yup, dumb question, especially as you have poplar! I would imagine they will take aspen, sallows and willows too. Dave

Yeah...wise guy! Reason I asked is the Poplar are NOT in my yard...makes last instar feeding of 30 some larvae a big you know what! obe

That makes more sense Dan, I have had a look around and all I can find listed are those I suggested earlier. Looks like you are going to have to take a hike now and again! All those plants, especially Salix, strike easily from cuttings. In fact all you need to do with Salix is put twigs in water and they will develop roots, than you pot them up. Something to think about next year maybe?Dave

I have some going now. They like poplar best but they are eating several species of willow I have on hand. Give it a try.
