fresh caught on samos greece last month, being a very complex group are the machaon any ideas which ssp these are. also alexanor / iphiclides. with many thanks Attachments:

The machaon are best referred to as ssp. syriacus. P. alexanor from Samos was described as ssp. eitschbergeri Bollino & Sala 1992. The Iphiclides are podalirius, which has no subspecies as far as I am concerned, now that feisthamelii has been shown to be a good species (Coutsis & van Oorschot, 2010. Phegea 39(1): 12-22).

Adam is correct. The ssp.eitschbergeri(in Greece found only on Samos) is the largest of the alexanor subspecies generally,but I have collected some huge specimens of the subspecies of mainland Greece(ssp.atticus?).
