On the 5th of June 2011, a friend of mine went to Sungai Kenyam for a three-day-two-night beetle-collecting trip during which he collected a fair amount of leps for me. Most of them I could identify, but there were also a few which were somewhat new to me and I'm hoping you guys will be able to help out. This first specimen is a Pingasa Sp. Attachments:

Why you brush off all the scales of the wings ? That sure does not help to ID the moths ...

Why you brush off all the scales of the wings ? That sure does not help to ID the moths ... I don't. They're a bit rough because my friend who doesn't know much about lep-collecting simply hand-caught them. He used a killing jar with some sort of poison which killed off anything within in seconds.

If you can't manage to get any sort of poison just take forceps and press their bodies until they are dead. I got stuff from collectors that only pinch moths by hand and they are of far better quality than the moth above this post ( not the Pingasa, that one looks acceptable).

Oh, you were referring to that one! That one is actually like that. Its see-through with a single dark brown border. Its quite a common Pyralid. I just never collected one till now.
