This series of 5 showcases was shot with Sony DSLR-a700 + Sony 100mm macro lens. From the collection of Bill Gendron. Designs by Dale Colby. Unfortunately Proboards has compressed these images quite a bit. The originals are tack sharp. I used two off-camera flashes mounted behind shoot-through umbrellas, one on each side at about 45 degrees. Most were shot at f14. Attachments:

Very nice idea. Imagine a wall full of insects sorted in this way!

I enjoyed the pictures also very much! The combination of specimen and colors is amazing, really nice displays and it would be lovely to have such a thing hanging on the wall.

Could you make this kind of series by country ? It could be nice to see the entomological diversity of a country ...

Please note, folks, that the artist in this presentation/advertisement is Dale Colby, not Clark. Dale is a starving entomologist from Costa Mesa, CA who can work with pinned or papered specimens (yes, he is a very fine mounter, as you can see (though leps are not his specialty - Bill mounted all of them). Dale was a commercial/trained artist in his day - does it show?
Dale designs these works of original showcase art from scratch and has prepared small showcases about 8x10 size with small to very-small insects/arachnids that would knock your socks off. The problem is transportation: getting big cases moved around, cross-country or further, without damage - which is why he's only gotten local business so far - that and a lack of a little advertising. He can do the art, obviously. I know he could use the business (health bills and retired to boot) - I can put you in touch with him (he has no computer). This local talent has been honed for many years but is pretty much unknown outside of the collecting fraternity in the LA area. I've known Dale for a good 25 years. He also knows his bugs - world-wide general collecting. We do have an real artist in our midst. Cheers!
