Hi all! New to this forum...I was recently in Battle Creek, Michigan (at Binder Park Zoo, to be exact) and discovered this little caterpillar hanging on a brown, dead leaf in the sun. Little did I realize it was probably eating this leaf. I picked it up and REALLY wanted to take it home, but I soon realized I knew NOTHING about taking care of it, and wanted to make sure it was able to become a butterfly/moth. I went to put him down and he fell from my hand but hung from a white/clear string (which made me wonder if he was a caterpillar at all) Can anyone tell me what kind of insect this is? Or what kind of caterpillar it is? I'm interested to know what kind of butterfly/moth it might have become. Sorry this is the only picture I have. Attachments:

Geezzz it is a poor shot :/ Nice hand tho It looks like it could be of a skiper I've seen similar larvae feeding on lemon trees and grasses. Yes probably all caterpillars will produce silk. One thing is for sure, it is a lep (Lepidoptera)

The picture is not enlarged enough to see if there are ocelli on the head or the number of prolegs present, so it also could be a sawfly larva (Hymenoptera)
