This odd insect was on my kitchen screen last night. It's about a half an inch long, very flat, and seems soft-bodied. It has feathery antennae like a pyrochroid, but I don't think it looks like that. It was very hard to get a decent picture because it was always moving. and where is your kitchen ? in Mongolia or in Patagonia ? In a forested area or right in a huge city downtown ? Subpolar climate or equatorial weather ?

It's the family Phengodidae. Phengodes plumosa (Olivier). I've collected them a number of times here in Illinois. Jeff Prill

I forgot to say I was in Wisconsin. Sorry about that. So Illinois wouldn't be that far off. I had suspected it was a Phengodidae but didn't think they occurred in Wisconsin.
