finally trapped a E. pandorus at about 4am today, and now not sure what or how to sex it! it has about a 4 to 4 and a half inch WS. heavy and thick bodied, but i cannot pinch the abdomen to expose its genitals. any other clues to look for? could the time of trapping suggest the sex? The pandorus is generally a thick bodied, large species. so Im scratching my head here, with virtually no expereince with the species.
Thanks in advance Greg

Does it have claspers on the end of the abdomen? Male Sphingids do, and they kind of resemble that of male swallowtails, although usually not as large. Also females have very thin antennae.
