Found in Cabarrus County Harrisburg N.C. July 17. It resembles a Pelidnota punctata but has the dark abdomen. i will post a bottom view next--Arrowhead Attachments:

You're right about Pelidnota punctata. Sometimes, they darken to a deeper reddish brown with age after death. Jeff Prill

Hi Jeff. You're right about the color changes after death. I have tried different methods of killing them--freezing, acetone, natural causes, and they always alter a bit but this one looked that way before dying. I don't know what else it could be, though. There was a big crop of Pelidnotas here this summer. Maybe it is just an oddball. Thanks for the solution-- Arrowhead
