It's in the family, Staphylinidae. I don't know the genus or species, but it looks like it might be in the subfamily, Staphylininae. Jeff Prill
After checking Biologia Centrali-Americana, the closest speciemen that I could find was a species of Osorius, but it's a stretch of idiocy, probably. If I had it in hand, I could probably get the identification, either through my efforts or through someone else. Jeff Prill

That is one strange looking creature! Although, I'd bet we look just as weird to them.
