It's in the family, Staphylinidae. I don't know the genus or species, but it looks like it might be in the subfamily, Staphylininae.

After checking Biologia Centrali-Americana, the closest speciemen that I could find was a species of Osorius, but it's a stretch of idiocy, probably. If I had it in hand, I could probably get the identification, either through my efforts or through someone else.

That is one strange looking creature! Although, I'd bet we look just as weird to them.
