I did not take a photo and should have. I want to relate something I experienced not very long ago. I don't know if I related it here before or not. Some one at a market in Florida asked me to kill a black widow spider under her table. Being a helpful person, I did. I noticed an almond sized silk bound blob that was wiggling. I had to know what was inside so I cut it open. Inside was a fiddler crab! I had never known a spider to eat a crab. Attachments:

They are opportunistic predators, seems to be a old record of one trapping a small mouse it does surprise me it could pierce the crab shell.

It seems you still don't, as you killed it before it got the chance to actually eat it! well she probablly would have. Whilst on the subject I saw a picture on a local newspaper of a small bird on a Nephila sp. web this might be the same one, looks like a finch conservationreport.com/2008/10/22/nature-giant-spider-caught-eating-bird/ and a small snake trapped by a red back which is a close relative to the black widow yep! this is the one, looks pretty real: www.hoax-slayer.com/spider-catches-snake.shtml
