oh! nigritus envy!!! yes yes, size is EVERYTHING when it comes to most Lucanidae It actually measures 75mm so 3mm does make a noticeable difference, especially with the mandibles. Attachments:

Yeah quite similar indeed, not as shiny though and more like parryi actually, just without the brown.

I surrender!!!!!!!!!! my specimen was from uganda also........how big is your specimen africone? as I wrote ... only 88 mm the record of 94 mm is not mine ... unfortunetely ! It was written by a Japanese via personal email (I can't remember who as it was with on my old email that has disappeared) note that the species is bred in Japan and they have probably very big specimen from breeding ! I heard of a "natural" 92 mm, not seen. In the last edition of "Lucanid of the world", the maximum size given is 91.5 mm.

While we're on this subject. Show me a Cyclommatus chewi 85mm or 86mm, mine is 84mm. I only know one person has a 86.5mm in this world but it was damaged.

I'm hoping this Odontolabis mouhoti mouhoti 77mm from Cambodia is a new world record for this sp. the biggest one was recorded at 74.3mm.
