I found this rather attractive larva on goldenrod yesterday. It's about an inch and a half long. Anyone know what it is? Bradleigh Attachments:

It's the last instar of the Cucullia asteroides, since they feed on goldenrod. The caterpillar is highly variable, green during the first part of its development, then changes to brown when it reaches the 7th instar. Wagner's Caterpillars of Eastern North America shows it. Might want to get a copy. Jeff Prill
