I saw this butterfly darting around palm trees at Bukit Ceraka a while back, but I was without my net. So, I couldn't catch it. However, yesterday I decided to go walking in Bukit Ceraka for some exercise and I saw the butterfly again. This time, it landed under a bird's nest fern's leaf and I managed to catch it with my fingers. I pinched it and wrapped it in a Subway napkin I had in my backpack. I've never seen this before. Anybody know what it is? Attachments:

A male of Eulaceura osteria (or the Purple Duke) -a beautiful Apaturinae. The behaviour that you described (it settled on the underside of a bird's nest fern's leaf) is characteristic of this species : when disturbed,it flies rapidly and settles on the underside of a nearby leaf with closed wings. This behaviour is the same for both sexes.

Yeah... Apparently, its a gift some people tell me. I have no difficulty catching butterflies with my hands provided its perched. I've amazed many locals here... ;D
I used to hand-catch Polyura delphis at a riverside somewhere in Ulu Slim, Perak.
