Of course it's impossible that it exists naturally in Japan (it exists in TURKEY of course), but I think he was meaning/asking if the specimen was bought from a Japanese collector (as these have usualy very rare specimens). Is this judaicus 95 mm ? I have one male of 90 mm. 95 mm is very good size for this subspecies ! The biggest known male is -as far as I know and if remember well- around 105 mm (!!!) and belongs to a Japanese .. . This is the biggest known Lucanus specimen in the world ! Thanos

I was only asking if he baught the specimen from Japan. If some one would have enough money, anything is possible. I know they have even bred even bigger specimen than this one in Japan.

This is the size with the longest mandible. The specimen is from my friend's friend. Few years ago, there're a 103mm in Japan. That captive bred seemed not perfect. But it's the biggest one I have ever seen. Attachments:

The specimen you have must be 1-2mm larger order to shrink to 100mm. it must be 101-102 when it was alive?

Amazing size! I´m searching for a judaicus +92mm. Is it legal to buy when it´s breed? I don´t want to have problems with custums.

It's totally legal to buy a bred Lucanus cervus from out of Europe. They're only protected in Europe and not protected internationally like CITES but finding a Japanese willing to export out of Japan it's hard. Good luck with your hunt.

I find it interesting that the angles of the mandibles are sometimes a key factor to the overall impression of the (judaicus) specimen. The 96mm judaicus is in my eyes much more impressive than the 93mm male, but not mainly because of the 3mm difference in length, but the more aesthetic beauty and power of the (less angled) mandibles!
