If somebody out there has deals with Marc Schenck from USA, be very carefull. He is a swindler and a very dishonest person. Last year I put an ad in the classifieds offering for sale 2 males papilio esperanza, one in A2 and the other A/A- quality. We did agree to exchange these for a graphium auriger and a female euterpinus. I sent my parcel at mid august and he received it quickly and with no problems. In theory he sent me his specimens also that month but I never received them. I asked for the number of the package to make the tracking but he didn't gave it to me. After a silence of one month or so, at the end of september I got an email from him explaining that his parcel had been returned and he was going to send it again. Since that moment I have sent him several emails, but with no answer; nothing. Other people have had problems with him, so it's obvious that this is not the first time he swindles other collectors. Be carefull.

Hello Jaume, I responded to Marc a few years back to an ad he placed offering Graphium gudenusi for 25 USD. I received a quick response saying he did have them but he was more keen on selling me a Papilio nandina male in A1- condition for an unreasonably high price. He left me his phone number to get in contact with him. Keep in mind, I have never done business with him before. I responded that I wasn't interested in purchasing the nandina at this time but would rather purchase just the gudenusi.Subsequent e-mails to him inquiring about the G. Gudenusi were ignored. Not a good approach nor professsional courtesy to any potential buyer in my book. I'm embarrassed to hear that a fellow American would stoop to a level of some Camaroonian dealers. I do hope he makes things right for you.

His professionalism is certainly to be questioned--he once sent me a rare Indonesian female Papilio, very badly damaged, with extra wings of Idea leucone to use to repair the specimen. I gotta say, that took balls, and he lost me as a customer.

We don't need these identified swindlers and he is one of many we can encounter in the US and Canada. Sad that we have to put up with these characters. I have encountered persons here in NA e.g. one fellow from Canada who collected Catocala from Florida while vacationing there and put labels on a lengthy series of specimens with false collection data that stated they were collected in Canada, then donated them to the Florida State Collection of Arthropods in Gainesville. Another from Pennsylvania who labeled a large number of sphingids collected in Arizona and placed false labels with collection data indicating they were collected in Pennsylvania. I have a hundred more encounters like this. How many more times do you plan on being victimized by this person ?

Mark Schenk is a thief, he did the same to me two years ago. I paid with confidence and never received the Graphium weiskei female he was advising. He's a liar. I would like to have his new email address, because he doesn't answer on the last ones. Cheers Didier

Folks exercise discretion. Marc Schenck is posting ads for purported butterflies for sale under "Mark". I'd hate to see anyone departed from their hard earn money.

Sorry to hear you guys have had such grief! I have had many good dealing with him. But often times, between weather and postal incompetence, his parcels can take several weeks or more to arrive! And he doesn't always respond to e-mails. obe

I have recently seen ads in the classifieds from "Mark Mello, Westport, Massachusetts". Is this the same seller as Mark Schenck?
Adam.

Nice detective work. I took it one step further and compared InsectNet Ad #14 on 2/02/2013 with previous Insects Net Ads #81, 82, 83. The "smoking gun" that I believe shows the writer of these ads to be the same person is simply a case of punctuation. In those ads, what they have in common the LACK of a period before the new sentence beginning with "Thank you", i.e.,
.........fotos Thank you No period after "fotos" .........price Thank you No period after "price"
My conclusion: same person wrote these ads.

Funny you should mention it Adam. I was wondering the exact same thing. I think Mark Mello is Marc Schenck. Same language and same kind of specimens. I went ahead and deleted those ads and blocked his Rhode Island IP address. Yes, his ads originate from Rhode Island, not Massachussetts.

Haven't been in the Forum for some time, too busy dealing with the Sandy BS - the Jersey Shore in this area got wiped but fortunately my wife and I doing OK. (and the collection/ overwintering livestock survived to see another day) Sorry to hear he's disappointed so many members and resorting to subtrefuge to continue offering material . I've known and occasionally visited him for at least a decade and have rarely had issues beside occasional slow delivery on livestock (checking the postmark dates, it's the area's mail service, not him). The specimens I've gotten over the years were pretty much what I bargained for... However, repeatedly screwing with collectors or enthusiasts in any way leaves no room for leniency at this website . Guess I better give him a call and see what the hell's going on... Mark Lasko
