Skandinavisk, The following 2 publications may be of interest to you: “Larval Adaptation to Lauraceous Hosts: Geographic Divergence in the Spicebush Swallowtail Butterfly” The paper abstract can be found at the following URL: www.jstor.org/pss/1941115“Differential use of lauraceous hosts by swallowtail butterflies, Papilio troilus and P. palamedes (Papilionidae)” The paper abstract can be found at the following URL: www.jstor.org/pss/3545384Research performed on Papilio troilus has shown that it is restricted to utilizing host plants that only originate from the Lauraceae, the most preferred host-plant species being Persea borbonia, Sassafras albidum and Lindera benzoin. Although all of these host plants are generally accepted by Papilio troilus , it would appear that their preference for a particular host-plant is genetically biased according to the historical geographical rearing culture (and oviposition preference) of the particular race of Papilio troilus concerned. Hope this is of some use? Mark
