Hi people, I caught this Colias from South Spain last year. In my opinion it is an aberration of a male Colias alfacariensis. Can anyone confirm please? Thanks. Jonathan Attachments:

It's certainly C. alfacariensis, but I would say it looks like a female. I've studied more than 10,000 of these things and I've never come across a white male.

Hi Bob, Thanks for your reply. It's ground colour is light yellow. Maybe the flash made it look whiter. I deduced it to be a male from the abdomen. Are these aberrations normal in C. alfacariensis? Thanks once again.

If you can see the genitalia and it's clearly a male then it must be, but don't go on the size and shape of the abdomen as this is very unreliable, especially when dried. Very pale yellow males are certainly found, but very pale yellow females are more common; females of the normal male colour are rare but fairly regularly found.
Like most Colias, alfacariensis is a very variable species; I wouldn't say your specimen is that unusual.
