I am pretty sure this butterfly is a Pierid, but I have no idea what kind. It was found in Ecuador. Attachments:

It's a Catasticta. For the species it needs searching. Some similar ones occur in Ecuador.

Could be :
Catasticta aureomaculata LATHY & ROSENBERG, 1912
Check with Maurizio Bollino who is the specialist for this genus.

The uppersides are indeed very similar, but aureomaculata occurs in Peru. Does it occur also in Ecuador ? There are some species in Ecuador with very similar uppersides to this. Mantisboy must take a clear photo of the undersides and post it here. Then, possibly we could reach the right species by comparing the undersides of this specimen and of the known Ecuadorian Catasticta species with very similar uppersides to this specimen's (the ones of which photos of both verso and recto are available).

I'd say C.philodora, but lets see the undersides first..
