Went up to Fraser's Hill once again earlier this month for more mothing and it was a belter! I've been told time and time again that March was the best time and it was! We didn't collect as many as October, though, due to the unplanned interruption by a couple who happened to be members of the Department of Wildlife... They stopped us dead in our tracks. They didn't confiscate anything, thankfully... Here's what we managed to 'smuggle' home. Enjoy... Attachments:

This was our haul on the third night... This was when the Department of Wildlife stopped us. We could have gotten a lot more... Its frustrating when you've got walls of moths ahead of you and there's nothing you can do... So close, yet so far... Attachments:

Any beetles? I took some nice lucanidae from that area some years ago during July...

Yes! Many beetles, too. But, I don't collect much beetles aside from the really eye-catching ones. I did collect a nice beige Lucanidae, a metallic green Cerambycidae, some large black Cerambycidae, and a huge dung beetle which made wound-up toy sounds when it crashed onto my balcony.
There's a lot of interesting stuff up there... How I wish I could spend the whole of March up there collecting...

Well, Fraser's Hill is a rainforest reserve. By right, collecting isn't allowed there. But, you know... We collectors always try to find ways around... I didn't know there was a couple staying up there, though. They got me by surprise. I thought they were just curious passers-by as they approached...
No worries. That wasn't a deterrent. Now that I know where they are and when they are around, I can find a way around this brick wall...

Have you ever thiought about actually getting permission?

Have you ever thiought about actually getting permission? Here's the thing about Malaysia, jshuey... The authorities here simply love to show who's boss and they'll do whatever their hearts desire to do so. Even if it means ignoring officially legit permission and such. Its all pure corruption over here... Its either you get smart or do nothing at all. 'Cause seriously... They'll step all over you like the poor bugs under their feet. I have tried getting real permission and all it did was cost me RM200 and like a month of hassle. When I produced the permits all they did was make up other excuses or simply place my permits as fake or invalid or some other BS... They don't want collecting being carried out at all and they don't give a damn, and at the same time, make it seem like there's a chance at it. Its screwed up...

Looking at the collected moths, I presume that Fraser Hill is somewhere in Asia or Australia. Would be glad to learn more about the location !! Sure, it's not in Scotland ! Fraser's Hill is situated in the state of Pahang in West Malaysia. Its THE place to be...
