I was wondering about the future of this butterfly. One web site predicts extinction due to its limited habitat and human population growth. Anyone have recent knowlege?

It seems no-one on here has field experience of benguetana. I'm comparatively near, but have no idea about its status in the wild. All I can say is, if the habitat is still there the butterfly will survive.
Adam.

After Tsukada & Nishiyama, Butterflies of the South East Asian Islands, both species flies together in the montane district of N. Luzon.

Very few publications available for Papilio benguetanus, but TOMMASO RACHELI & MAURIZIO BIONDI (1989) also list a single specimen found in North Luzon. For those interested the pdf can be found at the following link: www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1080/11250008909355660Mark

I have seen huge stocks of P. benguetanus offered at less than 5USD/each about 10 years ago. So it should be common in its habitat.
