Yes, it is infact: Odontolabis sommeri phahangensis from Malay Peninsula

Pictured is O. hitam from Borneo, (Taken from The Lucanid Beetles of the World, Mushi Sha) it is said that its habitat has been significantly reduced and it will thus become rather difficult to obtain... Lucky selfish old me has one already Attachments:

thanks again i have the book in question, but the picture in there of hitam was with the lighter coloured elytra similar to the sommeri. the only thing i noticed different was the bottom edge of the protonum had a more pointed edged where the sommeri was more rounded. thanks again pete
