I just had a moth come to my sheet that I have never seen before and I do not have a photo at the present time but maybe one of the "experts" has encountered this species and can give me a preliminary ID based on my written description, here goes.
first of all I thought it was a large beetle it was buzzing so loudly it has a similar appearance to a sphingdae in shape when at rest the forewings are mottled black, gray and some off white the hindwings are almost transparent. the legs are alternating black and white and the head is larger than most moths of this shape and size (approx. 2" wingspan) and the head is extremely hard.
Can anyone clue me as to what it is I am thinking possibly from the "ghost moth" genus waiting hopefully and thanks in advance, greenie

It would help if you told us where you were collecting, you could be anywhere in the world!
