The mosquitoes this weekend were eating me alive. I decided I would film one sucking ym blood out. This was shot at 3x on a Canon 5D Mark II using a Canon MP-E 65mm 1x-5x lens.

Nice closeup. Looks painful. I think I have to agree with the commenter that said he would have smashed it!

When I was working on my masters, one of "my jobs" was to keep our supply of mosquito eggs at a level that supported research in the lab. I tried shaving a lab rat and throwing it in a cage, but the damn thing bit me. So I figured I'd loose less blood if I just fed them myself. So, to do this, you just stick you hand in a cage with a couple hundred mosquitoes for EXACTLY 15 minutes. I learned quickly, that it's better to give them the entire 15 minutes of feeding, because that gives you a whole bunch of eggs, and those eggs stay viable for months.
But I'll tell you, you start to appreciate exactly how long 15 minutes can be if you are watching them mob your hand.

How scared I really am to watch videos like this, because I'm very much afraid of mosquitoes and I've had some illnesses because of them. I live near a body of water and in summer there are a lot of mosquitoes in my area. I recently overheard my friends talking about what smell do mosquitoes hate. The next day I found this article and read every word of it. I could not believe at first that mosquitoes can be afraid of garlic and catnip smell, but then I tried it in practice, and believe it or not, it worked. Almost all the mosquitoes have disappeared and I'm not worried anymore, but to be honest the video is quite interesting, albeit scary.
