Last summer I had collected a big larva of this special Euchirinae inside the soil of a hollowed Platanus, where I use to collect also few adults each summer. I put it in a jar with soil and pieces of wood. Recently it had become really very big for this species and since about a month ago it had started to make that characteristic noise which shows it is just before pupation. Since some days ago it was not moving much (came in the pre-pupal stage). Yesterday in the morning I checked it and it was still larva and, I checked it again after just 8-10 hours and it had already become pupa (but very whitish fresly-shaped pupa) ! Today it got the darker color that you see . Exceptionally, this larva didn't construct any pupal cage and didn't pupate at the bottom, but on the surface of the soil freely, just under a piece of wood. It is really big for this species and a male, so I hope in a few weeks to get an exceptional male from it ! Thanos Attachments:
