I need expert help.
Background: I have a large vivarium where I keep poison dart frogs. These frogs eat fruit flies, springtails, and isopods. They live in humid climates (80%) with temperatures varying from 60F at night to 80F during the day. The substrate is a mixture of peat, sphagnum moss, charcoal and tree fern fiber. There are live plants in the tank (moss, vines, bromeliads, orchids, etc.).
Here is where I need advice... Is there a flightless colorful metallic beetle (blue would be perfect, but open to other colors) that is active during the day and that would thrive in the vivarium's environment without harming plants and frogs? Beetles that feed on fruit would be fine, since there are "feeding stations" for the fruit flies inside the vivarium with bananas, etc.
I have been searching the web for days. There are so many beetles to read about, and yet, I cannot find one that meets all of the criteria.
One more consideration: I live in California, USA.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
