Hey, all; Obviously new to this forum, and I'm looking forward to gaining more knowledge in the wonderful world of insects. Has anyone seen this "fly"? It's about 3/8" in length, not a very strong flyer, and uses it's two front legs as feelers. They started showing up here about three years ago and return every spring (Johns Island, SC). I believe it is Grallipeza nebulosa. Or if you'd rather, a stilt-legged fly. We have them here in Florida as well. They do not bite or sting and I am not aware of any pest-like characteristics aside from occasionally entering human dwellings.

That's it! Indeed they don't seem to be pest-like, and are kind of fun to observe with their side-stepping walk and "shadow boxing" front legs.
Thanks!
