Hi Everyone, I'm an underwater photographer who usually sticks to shooting marine life in tropical destinations, but over the past few years I've spent significant time documenting the aquatic life in the many lakes of Ontario, Canada. The attached photo was taken this past weekend in Deer lake, near Sundridge in northern Ontario. Does anyone know what it is?? It was 5-10mm long and was in 7 feet of water. Thanks! Keri Attachments:

Wow what a bizarre creature!!! After looking at the enlarged version of the photo carefully it looks like an immature shrimp or crab of some kind or some thing els in that group. Could also be some kind of fresh water sea louse or scud. Dos not look like a nymph of some insect or a water dwelling insect. I am no expert but there's my best guess.

You might look at images of "fairy shrimp". It doesn't look quite right but I used to see them a lot in Ohio and Ontario, especially in the spring in temporary ponds. Rick
