Nice catch. Catching Pepsis is fun and scary when you find a big female.

All you have to do is squirt their thorax with one dropperful of ethyl acetate while they are in your net and they succumb instantly. Try it next time. On the thorax, not the abdomen.

Yes i'll have to try that. This year i had one force it's way out of the net just through sheer strength, and another that was clinging to a plant so tightly the net bounced along its back. It just done a vertical takeoff and flew away. I did catch most i saw though, several which are blue/black in colour, though there was one type with white socks on its legs that i could not get near enough to catch, and just saw them fly by.

Great idea Clark! Defiently don't want a female stinging you. Imagine it would be painful, plus I'm allergic.

Maybe its the danger zone for me but collecting hymenoptera is one of my favorite things to do. These Clypeadon are one of my local favorites. Thanks Clark will try your method the next time I go out to find Pepsis Attachments:

Pepsis are amazing. They're so bad many insects mimic them. Grateful for pepsis!
