Good day, we are moving our home to a more wilderness area. Sorry but this species was to small for me to preserve even much get a picture of.
I was really eaten up on the ankles yesterday, I first noticed the itching just from coming in out of the brush, Walton County Georgia US, just outside Atlanta. My ankles were really itching. Later that evening when I took my socks off my ankes looked like black pepper was dusted on them, I tried to brush it off but could not, so I scratched the spots off the top layer of my skin. I just though it was weird, though it was some kind of brier... but... now I realize it was probably some kind of mite.
They were not red like Chiggers, Trombiculidae, but black, just looked like little specs of pepper. The I thought it might be deer ticks, but looked those up and they actually seem larger than the little specs I had. Well this morning 4am my ankles were burning, so I scratched, got up and had to see what was going on, dozens of little hard bumps where I had scratched out the apparent critters. One I noticed still there, I scratched it out with my finger nail and that site bleed out, I guess it had dug in farther or I took off the entire top of the site. My feet still are burning from the bites. Its been about 18 hours.
Well again I just want some tips, I know 100% id is impossible without any pictures, but there you have the story.
I'm excited about finding this board being an amateur entomologist since I was a child.
Thanks, Scott
