How long can a mantis go without food? I have Eleven 4th and 5rd inster carolina mantises and won't be able to feed them for 5 days will they survive? If I put some extra food in there would they be ok for that long? Or is there some prey that I could put in their cages to allow them to live?

I'd like to know the answer too. I just started with mantids. I have no experience in it.

One thing that I do before I leave a pet mantis is I just put a few day's worth of food in its cage. It might eat all of the food right away, but then it will be full enough to last it until I get back. My experience is almost all with adult Chinese Praying Mantids though, so I don't know if it will apply to Carolina Mantids.

I am not sure, but I have had a European mantis go for 4 days before I fed it. Of course, I hopefully never find out its limit, cause that would imply that it starved to death.

They'll be fine just feed them before you go. As far as how long they can actually go without food, this would depend on many variables. Including; temperature, how much they ate before the fast, sex, etc...

They all survived while I was gone. Only one of my mantises had a bad molt and now she is all messed up and sadly she is my only adult female chinese mantis I have and the other one molted and turned out to be a male.
