I live in northwest indiana and i saw a rather large bug today and i can't find it on any identification websites online. it was pretty big, maybe two inches long. it was eating another one of its species. it was yellow but its whole bottom half was black. it had wings and was very scary!
if anyone has any idea what this is please help me!!

Mantid... No too iconic. Dragonfly type? Fly type?
Without a pic I'm thinking a molting cicada. Mantids are cannibals but not mature cicadas that I'm aware of (mind you I'm hardly an expert), and I can't think of any North American mantids that meets the description. Perhaps the molt was misconstrued as "another" being eaten?

Some kind of robber fly (Family Asilidae)? I know some species are yellow and black to mimic bumble bees so you may have seen one eating feeding on a bumble and assumed they were the same kind of insect; there mimicry really is pretty convincing without a close look. And I suppose they could be said to look scary. Hope this helps.
