Are there a lot of spiders where you live?

There are so many spiders here, and I'm wondering if it is like this in many places, especially close to a large river/lake. We just had our porch painted two days ago, before which all the webs and spiders were removed by the painters, and already there are sixteen that I counted and it's not even night yet. They really come out after dark.
