Mokky,
I am extremely keen to continue my research with members of the Apaturinae. Due to extemely variable weather conditions here in Europe however, numbers of Apatura specimens are extremely low here this year. I wonder therefore if you might please have any leads regarding the potential acquisition of any pre-hibernation larvae of native members of this Butterfly family in your region, such as metis? Any help, or supplier leads that you might please be able to provide in relation to this matter really would be very much appreciated.
Continued regards,

Dear irisscientist
Thank you for your comment. It is completely legal to collect Apatura metis in Japan except some National Parks.
So I am able to send you some papered specimen, however it is illegal to send live specimens of insects without the permission in Japan. In this point, I cannot meet your request. I am sorry to inform you.
cheers, mokky

Mokky,
Many, many thanks for your clarification regarding this most important issue, which has now been duly noted.
With respect to your kind gesture of specimen donation, in light of asking too much, I wonder if there is any possibility at all, of obtaining any fresh (i.e. this seasons) Apatura specimens? Important GC-MS analysis needs to be done on these specimens and unfortunately it is essential that only fresh samples are used for this type of analysis.
Again any assistance that you might please be able to provide in relation to this matter, really would be very much appreciated.
Many continued regards,
irisscientist

Mokky,
Whilst on this thread it has just occurred to me to please ask if you might please be able to assist with a related Apaturinae issue. For some time now I have been attempting to locate a publication by K. Honda, which in some of his later papers has the following reference details:
(1973) "Olfactory response of adults of butterflies to odorous compounds I. Sasakia charonda Hewitson". Nature and Insects 8. pp21-24
Firstly, Nature and Insects was published in 4 volumes and the original references do not state which of the volumes (1-4) this article was published in. Further to this, I have since obtained pages 21-24 from all 4 of the volumes of the relevant year of "Nature and Insects" (8) in 1973, yet none of these pages appear to contain the relevant article? Considering your background, I wonder therefore if you might please be able to shed any further light on the location of this article? I have obviously also emailed Honda (and also Omura) but again, have unfortunately had no success. The British Natural History Museum now fear it maybe an incorrect reference.
Continued regards,

Dear irisscientist
On your request I have secured one specimen of Apatura metis last weekend. If you want to receive it, I can send you the papered specimen by air-mail.
Please send me your address by PM.
Another question regarding the old paper, I will check it. But please wait for a while.
Cheers, Mokky
