I have 2 katydids that I want to pin and would like to know how to degut them. Do i have to degut them? I mean they are soft bodied insects and I am afraid they will rot if I leave the gut in there.

I have pinned katydids before with no problems, so I don't think degutting would be needed. The bright green wings turned a bit brown though. It seems that even in death they mimic leaves, green when alive, brown when dead.
I am interested in the degutting procedure though. I have a hickory horned devil in the freezer that made it to a pretty good size and died.
This post would probably be better off in "Open Topics" btw.

There was a post a year or two ago from a lady who injects silicone into dead caterpillars. The results are amazing. The caterpillars retain all their natural color. Maybe somebody can direct you to the post (includes pictures).
