Hi, can you help me identify a few wasps? NUmbering is L-R when viewed from front (so R-L from back)
1. cicada killer, here more for scale, this one is left out of some of the pictures.
2. assume its a bald faced hornet
3. is this a great black wasp? its not that big, but there were some really big ones in the area...just not where it would be prudent to wander in shorts. what doesnt come across is that the wings are a pronounced metallic blue when the light hits them right. the body may have a hint of the same hue.
4. no clue?? this is the one in the sidelong profile picture. kind of a reddish tint
#2 and #3 were collected over flowering bushes near a pond in suburban philadelphia. # 4 i cant remember, it might have been in my yard also in suburban philadelphia.
