Hi, can you help me identify a few wasps? NUmbering is L-R when viewed from front (so R-L from back) 1. cicada killer, here more for scale, this one is left out of some of the pictures. 2. assume its a bald faced hornet 3. is this a great black wasp? its not that big, but there were some really big ones in the area...just not where it would be prudent to wander in shorts. what doesnt come across is that the wings are a pronounced metallic blue when the light hits them right. the body may have a hint of the same hue. 4. no clue?? this is the one in the sidelong profile picture. kind of a reddish tint #2 and #3 were collected over flowering bushes near a pond in suburban philadelphia. # 4 i cant remember, it might have been in my yard also in suburban philadelphia. 1. cicada killer 2. bald faced hornet 3. i cant tell the difference between several species in online pics. Great Black Wasp, Sphex pennsylvanicus, also known as Katydid Killer? Or Chlorion aerarium which i see called alternately a Blue Mud Dauber or Steel-blue cricket hunter? Or Chalybion californicum - Blue Mud Wasp? grass-carrier wasp, Isodontia apicalis or auripes or philadelphica ? 4. red paper wasp (Polistes perplexus)?
thoughts?

hmm...cant figure out how to add multiple pics to one post, sorry This forum software does not allow it. A workaround is to combine multiple images into one image and attach it, as long as the combined image does not exceed the max file size.
