Hello people,
I have some questions about Pseudochazara pakistana which I would like some help from you experts to help me sort this out.
In the attached photo I have put some specimens from my collection (specimens on the left) which should pertain to Pseudochazara pakistana (Gross, 1978) To the right I have put the paratype specimens of Pseudochazara gilgitica pamirica (Bogdanov 2004) found in the State Darwin Museum of Russia.
After spending a lot of time searching for some differences which should distinguish one species from the other, I did not succeed. The only differences are due to the contrasts as all specimens featured in the State Darwin Museum of Russia website are all over exposed to the camera flash, hence the differences in the tonalities. My specimens are very similar to the specimens depicted in the Guide to the BUTTERFLIES OF RUSSIA and adjacent territories Volume 1. PENSOFT, Sofia - Moscow. 1997 as Pseudochazara pakistana.
So my questions to you now are:
1. Are my left specimens identified correctly as Pseudochazara pakistana?
2. Are the right specimens in the State Darwin Museum of Russia identified correctly as Pseudochazara gilgitica pamirica?
3. Can it be that Pseudochazara pakistana Gross, 1978 is a subspecies of P. gilgitica Tytler, 1926 ?
Based on the above photos, there are no differences neither in the wing patterns nor in the shadings between the 2 species, however the type localities of both species are quite distant from each other.
What is your opinion on this please? Any help from Pseudochazara specialists would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Jonathan
