I have just seen these boneo eagle claws for sale on ebay and people are bidding on them. Surely this is isn't right. I don't know the laws regarding this in asia. If people continue to buy this stuff, then they are going to continue killing these magnificent creatures for their claws!!! this is the link to the item number 271054221148 Attachments:

Any part of a raptor is not allowed in the USA. I think this may be a prison sentence if caught with it in the States.

Have a look at the taxidermy section in collectables ebay uk. There are always loads of raptors for sale plus big cats heads and skins. I can't see what the big deal is if they are legal ,ie before 1947 or road traffic accidents which you apply for a certificate for. The US has a large hunting and fishing culture, owning guns is a normal way of life, but you are not allowed to pick up a dead raptor in the road and have it stuffed seems a bit strange, and a waste of a beautiful bird which is just left to rot.

I was wondering when someone would say things like skulls and such were for sale. Sad that you say you can't see what the big deal is. I agree about taxidermy. Birds and the like do look nice stuffed, but for some reason there wasn't a statement saying that the bird was already dead. Now that the asian seller got a good price for the feet, maybe now he will order some more!! Just a gut instinct that the bird had been killed and the claws hacked off. Same when i see all the skulls you mention for sale on ebay. Great hornbill heads etc. I can't see all these birds just suddenly falling out of the skies dead and suddenly ending up for sale on ebay..I must say i haven't seen any big cats heads or skins. I don't know, maybe it's just me again, but hay ho!! Thanks again pete

150896636306 170902437513 140847712637 Just 3 ebay items that took just a minute to look up. If we banned everything just because someone doesn't like it,we wouldn't be able to do anything, and our hobby would definately be a no no. I know where your coming from, that someone is out there killing eagles just to sell their claws, which is wrong, but that is also the case with insects. I have been watching a program called 'Swamp People' about culling Alligators in America. This may or may not be necessary but they revel in the fact they have killed the biggest alligators which could be over 100 years old, surely this is not right. But it is legal so i have no problem with it.

stringer < if legal no problem. If illegal, then local authorities must acts. Chinese and Brazilian authorities often close ebay account from local insect dealers for instance. I guess it is the same with raptors.

I guess we will never know what is happening with the eagles claws. If the same dealer sells the same again then maybe there are questions to be asked. I don't think that insects can be compared to the killing of raptors, unless of course they are protected sp, but going back to the crocs and gators, i presume that if they are getting to the point where the poulation is really high and the numbers are spreading into homes and gardens, then they have to be culled to prevent them harming adults and children. Do you think that we get to the point where not seeing the actual animals being slaughtered and their legs cut off for trophies makes us ignorant to the fact? Do you think that if we saw this happening it would make us think again or would it still not bother us? It was just seeing those awsome talons sat there on ebay. I had this picture in my head of it being trapped and then having it's neck broken for it's feet. Any way it's gone now........new topic!!! cheers pete By the way colin. Yeah i see what you mean about items selling on ebay. Two are "antique" so to speak, but the lion has a "permit"!!!!!!!! Thanks again

The alligators are 'culled' for their meat and skins so the hunters can make a living. One of them is always saying 'its good we got that one before he killed some child',but the fact is they are in a swamp in the middle of nowhere, and are doing it purely for the money. With regards to do we forget about the animals as we collect them for trophies.I think you are right, as i look at my drawers of insects i tend to forget they were once alive and flying about, and look to fill the gaps of my 'stamp collection'

I have to agree with Thanos in one little detail he mentioned, if the specimens you (wollastoni) got were acquired without an export permit, then they aren't "legal", unless of course that at the time there was no need of a permit for export in Brazil, which I am not so sure.
Anyway, who cares, "dissing" each other online, that's pretty childish/senseless, as I think everyone sells whatever they want, the only people who should care about it would be the authorities, they exist for something! If anyone else selling something illegally acquired it is their (and buyer's) business. I may not agree with it but I won't say a thing.
(No disrespect to both)

I don't think as collectors we should be arguing against each other. There are enough enemies in the world without people of the same interests cutting each others throats. I believe that if a rare insect gets offered "permit or not" if the collector has not got it in their collection, and really wants it, then truth be known, he'll buy it. If a collector has endangered species without a permit for it, then they run the risk of getting caught, leave them to their own devices, don't slag it out on here between each other, it just gives any authorties reading these threads ammunition to come and look at what you have!!!!

There is no need to argue over who is selling what on Ebay. Who cares! I agree with Stringer about the legality of the raptor claws, if they have been just hacked of a freshly killed bird.

Also skulls and skeletons.I think you are probabely right about them being killed. It only needs everyone not to buy and this should stop. I just wonder if the meat is used.

they'll always find someone to sell the claws to. It is sad that poachers get away with things like this.
