I posted yesterday about modifications to BioQuip cages for later instars of lep rearing. Well, I have to say after a night, that it does not work as posted the way I like. So, I deleted the post. When I got up this morning, the cardboard was wet even though I took measures to keep the water away from the bottom. I will not risk too much moisture and frass getting wet fot this. Again, sorry I wasted your reads, but I call it like it is....and it did not work as planned

Bill,
I read your original post with interest and am sorry to now read that the plan didn't work!
What about using something other than cardboard? Maybe something more aborbant...or for that matter something less absorbant (I'm thinking thin plastic sheeting of some sort)? Maybe it could be angled so that any water droplets "roll" off it?

Simon,
I have not given up on the idea, just the particulars of what I posted about. Yes, I am considering alternatives which will not 'wick' up water or become soggy. The hard part will be finding a way that does not tear the mesh, does not get wet, and is practical to accomplish the original goals. Thanks for your reply.
