Has anyone ever collected in Hawaii and know the permits needed to bring insects back to the USA? Also, does anyone have any collecting experience there? Three main insects I'll be looking for are the Asian Swallowtail (Papilio xuthus), the Kamehameha (Vanessa tameamea), Chalcolepidius erythroloma, a click beetle.

Ha Ha! Hawaii IS in the USA- was that a trick question? Anyway, I've been there many times and collected lots of beetles and brought them to the mainland with no problems. But do not bring any live specimens. There are several very nasty pests established in Hawaii like the Mediterranean fruit fly which the mainland is trying hard to keep out. Rick

Good luck with the Vanessa tameamea, it is very local. For some reason, it sells for thousands of dollars in the European and Japanese market. The P. xuthus is an introduced species, probably very common.
