Hello
I have a small parcel coming from Africa being held in the Johannesburg airport. I have contacted everyone responsible in South Africa and they tell me that the parcel is being held as the UK requires a import permit for accepting the specimens. (UK is a transit country)
Is that a valuable reason, or should I just tell them tell the UK to stuff it and accept the parcel and ship it to my country?
The shipper did send the parcel with Export permits, and even though I had received parcels from pretty much anywhere in the world before, I never had any problems.
The specimens are not of protected species and as i told them, have very little comercial value, and are not for resale but for scientific purposes.

Hello wollastoni It is being sent to Portugal Seems like its not being accepted as its being sent from South africa by DHL, and according to the DHL rules, dead dried insects are in the restrictions (It was originally exported from Tanzania into South Africa as a transit point to the UK via Globeflight) Just crazy!

Sorry about your trouble. The only time I had a problem with a package being held up was with DHL. The package was sent from a colleague in Germany to the U.S. A DHL representative in NY called and said the package was being held at JFK airport until proper import documents were received. In order for them to release it and clear U.S. Customs, they needed a detailed list of it's contents sent to them. A couple of days later, while this list was being prepared, the package was delivered by DHL to my front door! "OK great!" I said, DHL must have changed their mind and it was cleared through U.S. customs after all as I expected it would be. Well, not so fast.
The next day, I got a another call from DHL in NY saying that the package was released by mistake and it now must be returned to Germany! This of course was after I had already opened and unpacked it. So I repacked it, and they sent a DHL courier to my door to pick it up and return it to my colleague in Germany at their expense.
I advised my colleague to avoid using courier services (like DHL, FedEx, UPS) and send and receive all parcels by regular international postal service. He did, and I received the package (again) without any problem.
Moral of the story: Avoid using courier services like DHL and you shouldn't have as much trouble.

Thank you for the insight. Globeflight never told me they would then send the parcel to Europe with another courier. Thats one big problem, and the reason why I find it unacceptable if the specimens won't be accepted into the UK.
I won't get a refund from the seller, either the parcel being sent back. And that's the main problem.
Today I expect to talk with the Johannesburg guy, lets see what's next....
