I would just like to bring to the attention of those that have not read the very amusing book on butterfly collecting around the world called' The Hazards of Butterfly collecting [2004] by the famous Danish lepidopterist Torben B. Larson. There are many great stories here, many from Africa. Who ever said the modern day hazards of butterfly collecting were not many would be totally wrong. Nomad

Yes a very good book indeed, highly readable and entertaining. Spot on for West Africa situations and brings smile to one who has ever been there. Well worth the money.

The Author is also a really nice person. The piece "We are now going to shoot you Sir" is hilarious.

Wollastoni. I am glad that your enjoying it. A brilliant and funny book by a well known but very down to earth lepidopterist. Many great stories here to read.

I assume that the book is a collection of all his articles of the same name that appeared in the Entomologists' Record for many years - these never failed to raise a smile.
I bumped into Torben a few times at BMNH and these stories are even more amusing when told in the flesh.
