Clark/all, As well as being a daily visitor to the new (current) forum I also regularly visit the pre-2011 forum archive to re-read old posts and check out photos from the "show your favourite specimen" sub-forum. I've noticed that for the last week or so that when I've gone to the archive only the first page of each sub-forum appears and the (old) hyperlinked page numbers allowing you to navigate through the sub-forum has disappeared? Is anyone else experiencing this? It would be a real shame if the wealth of knowledge contained in the old forum was lost... Bizarrely, I have still been able to access individual topics via a google search so the information is out there...somewhere... Simon

I see that. Sorry about it. I think I know how to fix it but don't hold your breath. The script is broken. I'll check it out when I have time.

Just like Simon, I cannot access any of the pre 2011 archives. I just get a error message. Let us hope, that this very valuable source of specimens and information will return for us all to enjoy.
Peter.

Oops. It looks like the Old Forum script cannot be opened. It might have something to do with my server company. They have been deleting and disabling some of my old scripts due to their vulnerablity to modern hacking techniques. Sorry everyone. I think it's time to put the old forum to rest.

Clark, I've been thinking about this (now that my upset at reading your previous reply had subsided) and wondered is there REALLY nothing that can be done? It would be a huge shame to lose the archive as it acted as both an invaluable repository of knowledge built up over the hundreds/thousands of posts as well as being a great source of nostalgia for those of us who remember when the archive forum was actually an active forum. There are members (nomi and wolf spring to mind immediately but I'm sure there are others) who have very good levels of knowledge of IT/operating systems etc (as evidenced by some of their previous posts)...I'm just hoping that someone can do something to save the old posts??? I'm certain there is people on here that better know how to deal with servers as I currently just learn my way into it.
The solution that I could propose would be to transfer the old archived forum into a simply accessible static webpage (hosted on Clarks insectnet.com server). The old scripts only had to be running as it still had the old forum architecture and was ready for new posts, but that will never happen. The search function would get lost for now but the rest should be accessible and running without further troubles, at least I think so.
It shouldn't be too much of work and could be done in an afternoon I guess., I would need access to the old server repositories in some way or get a copy of the database.

I would love to help. Unfortunately my knowledge about databases is limited to import/export of db dumps

UPDATE:
After investigating further I have come to the conclusion that the old Forum is hopelessly corrupted. So I deleted it entirely off my server. Besides, it was causing problems in my Site Search by flooding the search results with hundreds of links that did not necessarily work. Now that those files are gone the Site Search will eventually be cleaned out of those files (though not right away. It will take a while for Google to erase them).
I do have a copy the entire thing saved on my hard drive. To make something out of it would be a tremendous task. It is a script written in CGI/Perl. Anybody out there an expert in this field? It is beyond me.
Anyway, let's concentrate on building up this Proboards forum. There is a new version coming soon that has more features that you will like (See Announcements). We are obligated to sign on to the new version. As modern hacking gets more sophisticated, web programs have to be constantly updated to be secure. This is what I see happening with Proboards and the Classifieds. That is why InsectNet has deferred to remote hosting for those programs, because the vendor will have better control of operations, updates, and security than I could ever have.
