Using bioquips net materials and a little duct tape came up with this beauty. My favorite new net has to be the coleopterist net which has an interior liner keeping fast and flying insects inside the net. The net is a little larger than the ring preventing insects from escaping underneath the sides, other tiger beetle fanatics probably understand this lol. 4ft aluminum handle with added duct tape grips every ft or so. The grips help me a lot less so on butterfly nets when seems better to have a smooth action. Also if you're like me and get lost in the Gila wilderness searching for insects a little duct tape will go along way ask Macgyver. Attachments:

Like to reinforce the bottom of the handle helps in steep terrain and the plastic gets all messed up. Attachments:

thanks for the tips! I collect beetles, although I wonder if that extra material would ever get in the way? I have had a few times where it gets in the way of me keeping the bug in the end of the net and also when I am placing the bug into the jar..... but maybe this is better... just wondering

The extra material hasn't been a problem. With escape artists I will sometimes put the jar inside the net and cap it on the outside, give it a couple minutes until the insects are slowing down and then quickly cap it. This method is also good if you like to catch Pepsis or other painful insects.

If you collect tiger beetles on the ground by slapping a net over top there's a net that works very well. It's Bioquips' 7218SA. The beetles don't see it so they fly up into the net rather than running for the edge. It's greatly improved my collecting.

Its also another great net. Have one with a 5 foot handle which seems excessive although its great at scooping butterflies on the wing. The material is not as durable which tends to be a problem for me. Get over excited when after a new species. Jumped in a pond after some darners with my cell phone.

I like using a long handle sometimes. Good for wary species like Cicindela marginalis. Just slide it along the ground and make a quick flip over the beetle.
