Even without specialized books, it's posible to identify most of the butterflies surfing on the net (it's much more difficult for moths). For example, visiting this page : www.lepido-france.fr/liens/categorie/region-orientale1/you will get many useful links to asian butterflies websites !! Good work and good luck !

Jean-Marc, This specimen is a female (note the abdomen), as are the 2 photos with wings open posted later. This is ssp. memnon, which occurs in Java, Bali and Borneo. The females of this subspecies are extremely variable, as they are with some other subspecies of P. memnon. These dark forms do look rather like males, but if you look carefully they are clearly female. Adam.
