Does anyone have any feedback regarding Karol Glimos from Poland? He advertises often in the classifieds. My concern is that I asked him for a reference on Musa Mmbaga from Tanzania. He gave Musa a good reference which subsequently ended with me trusting Musa and losing a chunk of money. Since this incident Musa has been identified as a thief and a swindler. Karol has some good bugs from time to time but if he is giving crooks like Musa a good reference I am hesitant to do business with him Thanks much in advance for the feedback.

Hello "damoose" - it would be nice if you signed with full name when putting my name in here. I did replied to one or two emails regarding Musa, but only stating facts about my cooperation with him. In the past I did have a few deals with him. The parcels arrived, the contents and condition of specimens was not always good and as expected, but I got some material from him. Comparing with other African contacts, I would say the quality of butterflies was ok. I never sent him any advance money though. It is a pity that you lost money, but taking risk yourself can not be the reason to blame someone who tried to help giving you info. Posts like this probably make many people not reply to such questions about their deals with certain suppliers, and I will definitely do the same in the future. Karol

Hi damoose,
As this thread is about Karol Glimos, not about Musa, I will at first respond to your question about Karol. I purchased insect from him several times, last time just few weeks ago. Only thanks to Karol I have for example Papilio charopus female which is only thanks to his african contacts. As for determination I have not any complains, from about 40-50 insects totally received during years only 1 was not correctly determined / to be true it was very hard to determine species and I got better species I payed for /. As for quality I think his grading is fine, if you pay for A1 you will get A1, if you pay for minor quality you will get minor quality. If I asked Karol for some photo in case of rarer or expensive specimen - always got photo of actual specimen. Packing is standard, shipping costs also. As for pricing everybody can judge if will find something in good ratio price/quality.
And small remark to Musa. I am sorry to hear you lost money, I am sorry if anybody will lost money because unfair sellers. Problem is some "crooks" are not constant in their behaviour. They are able send some parcels, then they stopped sending. I have also such experience - got 2 parcels without problem from one peruvian seller, then 3rd never got and probably never sent from him. If you will ask me for reference for that person after I received 2 parcels, surely I will give him positive feedback. If you asked me after 3rd I will surely tell you other words.

I purchased a large goliathus from karol which was not in the best condition, but he immediately asked me to return it and refunded me without hesitation. I purchased a large M. torquata poggei from him also which was in excellent conditon and rather cheap for the size. Musa is not to be trusted. He did send me a parcel first without payment, but the material was worthless with live parasites crawling all over the place, then he demands his money. peter

All of the feedback is greatly appreciated. The reason this forum is available is to make input and feedback available to serious collectors. The intent of my question was not to shed any bad opinion of Karol Glimos in any way. I feel that under the circumstances the question I asked was legitimate. Because of my bad experience with Musa Mmbaga my policy with African dealers is strictly no payment in advance ever! Again, thanks to all that responded!
