In response to a “Wanted to Buy” Classified Adv....
On January 23, 2013, I was contacted by a seller calling himself “Dennis Walker” wdennis163@gmail.com. Dennis offered a small selection of non-protected African Papilio for Sale. I was told that he had shipped two other times to the USA and gave the following references: Mr Kane Stinama: stinkane@hotmail.com and ms Doris Lambert: dorislambert3@gmail.com.
On the 27th and 28th of January both Doris and Kane responded to my inquiry with a positive reference for the seller Dennis Walker.
On February 1 payment was made for my selection of Papilio via Western Union to the following address: Che Emmanuel suh, at address: sonact st, Bamenda, NWR,Cameroon, post code : 0237, tel :+237 7054 2345.
Since then, Mr. Walker is no longer responding to my inquiries and I have not received the specimens.

Sorry for your loss. Once again, never send money in advance to unknown seller/collector. It is so easy to create fake references.
Hope you didn't send too much to those parasites...

Dear friend, it is sad you catch to the cheater trap and paid for your unxperience. It is very simple trick: the same person (here Mr.Walker) estabilished himselve other email addresses on servers where everybody can have tens of contacts (gmail.com, hotmail.com) and then he only cofirmed you questio: Yes, Mr.Walker (me) is honest. The same person communicate with you under this emails. Who believe and send money in advance it is their (cheaters) good man. Ribero

It wasn't much money, which doesn't mean it didn't make me angry. In hindsight I may have overlooked some red flags, for instance:
1) Western Union: I did ask if he would send the goods and accept payment upon my receipt of the specimens. 2) No home or mailing addresses were given by the references (i suppose those too could have been faked) 3) too much information - I was told that Che Emmanuel suh was his apprentice 4) Cameroon! - period! Case closed, RUN! 5) Came to me unsolicited, in response to WANTED TO BUY advertisement. 6) Dennis Walker is the name of a musician, but english monikers are often used to bridge the culture gap.

Somehow I doubt that the Prime Minister of Cameroun (or one of his representatives) will ever bother to address this problem, never mind going as far as asking for the password to view the Trading Reports section. He probably has much more serious problems to deal with. However, I do appreciate that it is a good idea to try to bring the matter to the attention of the authorities in that country. Well done for trying!
Adam.

Mr Walker told me he has South African Orthoptera (but he just had copy pasted the species I was looking for, which made me sceptical), but when I asked him to send me photos of his bugs available, he first told me "ok I working on it", then a few days later he wrote this reply: "Sorry Change of mind, i just found my pics posted by one fellow Choa Frank on insect.org claiming to have them and want to sell. I have reported on the site and will no longer send pics to any one. So if you are serious of buying these specimen, you can get me your address to proceed Regards Dennis I thought this was a funny kind of excuse not sending pictures

I've used this website to learn how to track an IP address and then use an IP address locater to see what area an email was sent. www.ehow.com/how_6949490_trace-email-message.htmlYou could do that with emailed references to see where their emails originated.

I wasn't trying to be "snarky and pretentious" (whatever 'snarky' means), just stating things the way I see them. The main problem is that anyone from the Prime Minister's office in Cameroun trying to access the Trading Reports would just come across the password login page and give up, even if they bothered looking at Insectnet.
Adam.
