I don't know what it is, but I do remember picking one of those up in Bangkok in 1980. It both bit and stung me, and the pain lasted over a week. I'm not sure if the danger is overstated though, as apart from pain there weren't any other symptoms such as the necrosis around the sting area where a Provespa got stuck under my watch strap in the mid 80s. I still have the scar to show for that one.
Adam.

I found that the species maybe close to Pseudomyrmex gracilis from South America, but not the same. Please help me to find out what it is, thanks

They are extremely agile and can attack any intruder with it's powerful sting. The sting is very painful and can lead to swelling and anaphylatic shock to those who are allergic to this ant bite.

Hold it, these are 2 separate issues "bite" and "sting". A bite is made with the mouthparts, but a sting is made by jabbing you with the nasty needle at the other end. I can testify that this particular ant produces both a painful bite and sting. Adam.

In France, at least, so many people make confusion between bite and sting. For example, most of the people would say "I have been stinged" by a spider ! In Amazonia there is a very dangerous ant (I forgot the name) who, as far I know, bites and stings. This a big ant . I saw several in Tambopata area (Peru).

HI, What you saw in peru is probably Paraponera sp. or Dinoponera sp. (Conga ants or Bullet ants common name).

"What you saw in peru is probably Paraponera sp. or Dinoponera sp. (Conga ants or Bullet ants common name)." I think you are right. Many thanks ! By the way, last November in French Guiana, I met this huge and astonishing ant. Should be very pleased to learn the ID ! Attachments:
