I've just received 6 of these today, doubt I'll get around to setting them yet though as I'm working on the house so they'll be in the freezer until November when I'll start setting again through the long dark nights. They look nice specimens though with possibly 1 female, much darker ground colour.

They are from Lam Dong which would make them nominate uemurai.

I have just taken this specimen off the setting/spreading board-it's not perfect but is for me the most exciting butterfly I have seen for years..Stichopthalma uemurai from Lam Dong Vietnam. From what I have seen I think this species is very variable. I have some chestnut coloured specimens on the way which resemble the specimen pictured on the first post of this thread Attachments:

Hi Rich,
Thanks for posting recent photos. I have 4 specimens (still unmounted, also from Lam Dong) & 14 more still enroute... will be interesting to mount them all out for comparison... hopefully a female among them.
A very knowledgeable fellow member of this website recommended the following book, to myself, about these very same b-flies: Butterflies of Vietnam, Vol. 3; Nymphalidae: Danainae; Amsthusiinae, by Alexander L. Monastyrskii, 2011, 150 pgs.. I ordered my copy (+ vol. 1) from Pemberley books about a wk. ago & these books are readily available through most major booksellers in Europe. Vol. 1 & 2 are also available & appear to be very useful for some of the Vietnam b-flies now becoming available online from ebay sellers...

I have noticed some new species coming out of vietnam, from the same seller as these stichopthalma uemurai, I sent him the papers to help him locate them but alas the prices are way to high for my pocket at the moment, though some people are buying them so I'm not expecting the prices to come down much yet but I am surprised that uemurai is much cheaper. The new ones are stichopthalma louisa s.sp eamsei or stichopthalma eamsei which ever you prefer also a few stichopthalma louisa s.sp mathilda which I have pictured on this forum, mine are from Loas at a fraction of the vietnam prices. I've also asked him to look for the newly described (last year) stichopthalma devyatkini so if they appear they won't be cheap.

Yeah, they're the one, stichopthalma louisa s.sp eamsei which has been raised to species level buy some, described 2 years after uemurai in 2000.
